Typically, GreenBusiness WORKS begins a training or development project by conducting a Needs Assessment (sometimes referred to as a Needs Analysis). The Needs Assessment determines training needs as well as cultural, environmental and/or organizational requirements. The Needs Assessment is not only valuable in determining training needs, but is particularly useful in identifying obstacles that may prevent the training program from being successfully implemented. Also, the Needs Assessment provides valuable "back ground" and "color" in the form of anecdotes, jargon and other organizational cultural elements that make the training program content credible, interesting, relevant and fun.
Activities in conducting the Needs Assessment include some or all of the following:
- Review of Job Descriptions
- Observe Employees at Work (if possible)
- Interview Employees
- Do the Job Ourselves (where practical)
- Observe a New Employee On-the-Job
- Develop, Implement and Analyze Questionnaire/Surveys
- Review of Performance Appraisal
- Review of Existing Documents, Materials and Programs
In addition to, and independent from the Needs Assessment, we ask our clients three specific questions regarding the objectives and development of the training program:
- What do you want trainees to know upon the completion of the program?
- What do you want the trainees to do upon the completion of the program?
-
What do you want the trainees to feel upon the completion of the training program?
The answer to these questions assist in determining program knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
